Call for Litter Bins, Dog Bins and Tips to be re-opened

Liberal Democrat councillors are calling on Bury Council to re-open street litter bins, including dog waste bins, and for Greater Manchester Waste to re-open the local tips.

Prestwich Councillor Michael Powell said;
"We're all getting loads of concerns from residents about an increase in litter and fly-tipping."

"Other authorities across the UK are still providing these services. Manchester and Oldham's bins and dog waste bins are open. Wigan has now reopened its refuse facilities."

These calls have come following a month of lockdown closures from the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic. There has been a noticeable spike in fly tipping across in many areas. .

"All of us would want to ensure the safety of council staff, but hopefully a way can be found to do this which keeps both staff and members of the public safe.
If it is good enough for Manchester and Wigan then it is good enough for Bury, stated Councillor Powell."
